Welcome to Glasstronomy Studios’ adult art glass learning program. This calendar showcases the courses and workshops offered from April to June 2022. This season is a return to basics for beginners and a playful mix of techniques for the more advanced.

How to register

To register, we currently accept payment in person (cash, Debit, MasterCard and Visa), by email (etransfer), or by phone (MasterCard and Visa). Please note that HST will be added to the listed fee at time of payment.

Cancellation policy: A Studio credit will be issued for cancellations up to 48 hours before start date. We regret that Studio credits will not be issued under the 48-hour threshold.

Studio credits can be applied to a future purchase of a workshop or course.

Courses

  • Course | B209 | Beginner stained glass: Leaded panel (May 5, 12, 19 and 26, 2022)

    Welcome to stained glass! Bright and engaging, stained glass is a wonderful medium to inspire creativity and relaxation. This four-week course includes hands on instruction in traditional lead came stained glass in our spacious and fully equipped studio. Participants will learn how to safely handle, cut and break sheet glass, and glaze and putty an 8-inch x 10-inch stained glass panel.

    Individual tool kits for use during the course and accent glass, chemicals and metals are included.

    When: Thursdays, May 5, 12, 19 and 26, 2022, from 10 am to 12:30 pm

  • Course | A429 | Fusing technique: Fused and foiled wall planter (May 5, 12, 19 and 26, 2022)

    This season’s showstopper is chock-full of technique! Using 96 COE glass and glass accessories, participants will use the Morton System to create a honeycomb backdrop, experience glass combing in the mini kilns making bee bodies, and master contour shaping with stained glass. They will then add all these components to a zinc and steel armature to complete a 12-inch by 18-inch wall or fence hanging planter. Oh, the things we can make with glass indeed!

    All materials and project firings included. Plants not included.

    When: Thursdays, May 5, 12, 19 and 26, 2022, from 7 to 10 pm

Workshops

  • Workshop | G269 | Fusing fun: Cherry blossom tree (March 26, 2022)

    Nothing announces the beginning of spring like the abundant display of cherry blossoms in High Park. During this one-day workshop, participants will learn how to incorporate 96 COE glass and frit with copper and brass to create a 20-inch freeform fused cherry blossom wall hanging.

    All materials and project firing included.
    Beginners are welcome.

    When: Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 10 am to 4 pm

  • Workshop | B206 | Beginner fusing (April 2, 2022)

    Play with colour and form as you explore the magic of fused glass art. Spend the day in our bright, spacious, and professionally equipped studio while creating unique fused glass jewellery and a one-of-a-kind fused and slumped dish. Participants will learn about glass compatibility and volume control as well as glass cutting and shaping with our expert instructor.

    Tool usage and all materials and project firings included.

    When: Saturday, April 2, 2022, from 10 am to 4 pm
    Fee: $145 + HST (includes all materials and project firings)

  • Workshop | G270 | Fusing fun: Social network seasonal stake (April 9, 2022)

    Another addition to our seasonal stake series, this homely grouping takes inspiration from the return of social gatherings, boasting multi-layered feathered friends on an impasto formed fence. Participants will learn how to use CMC, Glassline paint, and 96 COE glass, powder, and frit while creating a 12-inch half round piece ready for the spring garden or décor theme.

    All materials and project firing included.
    Glass cutting experience required, beginner fusers are welcome.

    When: Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 10 am to 4 pm
    Fee: $195 + HST (includes all materials and project firing) + stake or table stand (optional)

  • Workshop | I433 | Fused and foiled: Peacock wall sculpture (April 30 and May 7, 2022)

    Luminescent, iridescent, dichroic, and wow! Flashy and fun, this 12-inch by 16-inch fused and foiled wall sculpture shimmers to life with all its metal veneer. During day one, participants will learn how to use 96 COE luminescent, iridescent, and dichroic glass while creating three stunning peacock feathers to be fired in the kiln. Returning the second week, participants will incorporate their fired feathers and more iridescent cut glass into their custom metal armature. Finally, they will patina and polish their wall sculpture ready to hang.

    All materials and project firing included.
    No beginners please.

    When: Saturday, April 30 AND Saturday, May 7, 2022, from 10 am to 4 pm

  • Workshop | G267 | Fusing fun: Sandblasted iridescent glass dish and coaster set (May 14, 2022) (FULL)

    Welcome our new sandblasting equipment to the Studio with this fun and dynamic project. Participants will learn how to safely operate the sandblaster while frosting the back of a pre-fired piece * and creating blasted designs on a fused and slumped dish and coaster set. Sandblasting pattern design and appliques will be covered.

    All materials and project firings included.
    Beginner fusers are welcome.

    * To practice, participants need to bring a pre-fired glass piece for frosting, no larger than 8-inch x 8-inch.

    When: Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 10 am to 4 pm

  • Workshop | G271 | Fusing fun: Butterfly wind chimes (May 28 and June 2, 2022) (FULL)

    This kaleidoscope of butterflies is sure to brighten your window or outdoor space and their soft chiming harmony will add to the music of their environment. During the day session, participants will cut the project pieces out of 96 COE glass, apply Glassline paint detail and wire for firing. During the evening session, participants will apply alcohol ink to their fired butterflies and mount all the wind chime elements to the prepared metal frame.

    All materials and project firings included.

    When: Saturday, May 28, 2022, from 10 am to 4 pm AND Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 7 to 10 pm
    Fee: $225 + HST (includes all materials and project firings)

  • Workshop | I361 | Stained glass fun: Patio stone (June 4 and 9, 2022)

    Celebrate the coming of summer at the Studio by making a 16-inch hexagonal stained glass patio stone. These bold patterns are a beautiful way to add colour and expression to your garden path or flowerbed. Participants will learn how to prepare a pattern and plastic mold for glass and concrete. Participants will return the following Thursday evening to pour the concrete. There are several patterns to choose from.

    Pattern, accent glass, and concrete material included. Opaque stained glass not included. Participants will need 4 square feet to complete the project.

    When: Saturday, June 4, 2022, from 10 am to 4 pm AND Thursday, June 9, 2022, from 7 to 10 pm
    Fee: $225 + HST (includes pattern, accent glass, and concrete) + 4 square feet of opaque stained glass

    Patterns include Butterfly and daisies, Hummingbird and hibiscus, Sunflower and ladybug, Waterlily and lily pad
